I worked with Olivia on her project involving the combination of the human placental matrix and magnetic nanoparticles in sites of wound healing. She taught me how to capture microscopic images and analyze data through ImageJ, and she introduced me to cell culture. I had the privilege of contributing to “Magnetically Responsive Polymeric Microparticles for the Triggered Delivery of a Complex Mixture of Human Placental Proteins.” Olivia knows how to highlight her team’s strengths, as she encouraged me to create my first scientific illustrations and then included them in her publications and presentations.

Outside of the lab, we formed the UF BME Diversity & Inclusion Initiative (now UF BME IDEA). Olivia has served as a strong role model and wonderful mentor over the years. I would have been so grateful to have a faculty member like her during my academic career. She continues to inspire me with her passion projects and dedication to science, and I’m excited to see what she does next.

I graduated with my master’s in biomedical engineering from the University of Florida in the spring. I am currently based in San Francisco, working as a quality engineering consultant at Network Partners.
