I began working with Dr. Lanier in the 2nd semester of my junior year (January 2023). In the lab, I have assisted Dr. Lanier in the development and characterization of pH-responsive nanoparticles for oral delivery of siRNA to treat inflammatory bowel disease. In pursuit of this, Dr. Lanier taught me numerous invaluable lab skills, such as nanoparticle synthesis, cell culture, dynamic light scattering, and ELISA, among others. As a biochemistry major, I was somewhat unfamiliar with some of the chemical engineering elements of this project, and Dr. Lanier was more than happy to teach me and answer any questions I had. I have worked in three laboratories as an undergraduate and can say that Dr. Lanier is a uniquely capable mentor. She is kind, approachable, and extremely knowledgeable. Working with her has been, without a doubt, the highlight of my time in college.
